NOTE: When an Institution chooses to create and activate Notices and Links then they display just above the Quick Review and Full Details content.

Quick Review

Quick Review as the name implies is a shortened view of the more extensive Full-Details. The Quick Review provides shorter bullets of information to quickly check before performing a procedure and there are fewer images compared to Full-Details. However, the Quick Review view features comparable functionality to the Full Details view. It does not contain an Introduction nor does it contain References. Only Full Details contains an Introduction at the beginning and References section at the very bottom of the text. For more information about Quick Review click here.

Full Details

The Full Details view features comparable functionality to the Quick Review view but is more extensive with respect to its content. The Full Details provides more comprehensive information with all images available for the procedure including and Introduction section at the beginning and a References section at the bottom of text. References for the Full-Details section only links directly to each reference. Just click the "Return to Text" to return to the linked reference. For more information about Full Details click here.

CPT and ICD9 Billing Codes

You can view CPT and ICD9 billing codes associated with this procedure from either Quick Review or Full Details. Just click (View codes link) in the upper right. To close the popup, click Close in the upper right.  For more information about CPT and ICD9 Billing Codes click here.

Videos

You can view video in two different players with different sized viewing screens. The larger player has the same functionality as the small video player, with one exception: it has the ability to play or hide closed captioning. Both sized video players have links to key steps. For more information about Videos click here.

Names and Affiliations

For the content that is provided on the site, acknowledgements are provided as applicable to each of the respective procedure in the form of Editors, Section editors and Contributor names along with their current credentials. Click the name link to open a popup box with the name and affiliation information. To close the popup, click Close in the upper right.

The sample below shows that Todd W. Thomsen, MD was selected by the user. His name and affiliations information displays in a popup box.

TIP: By clicking on each of the different names, the new name and associated affiliation displays in the same pop-up box.

Tests

Each procedure provides a series of test questions. Test questions may be in the form of multiple-choice, true/false, and yes/no. When the test has been completed, your score displays at the top, an indicator of whether or not you passed and for each question correctly or incorrectly answered a rationale displays. For each incorrect answer, you are reminded of what the correct asnwer would have been.

Hint: You can take the test as many times as you want. The system tracks and records all test results in your test history, whether the tests were self-directed or assigned by a chief resident. Test results are never deleted. Pass/Fail thresholds are set by a user that has the appropriate administrative permissions.

For more information about Tests click here.

Links to Other Procedures

Many of the Procedures contain links to other procedures within PC. They take you to the Quick Review page for that procedure. The example below shows three links. Each of these will open in Quick Review for the applicable underlined procedure.

Links to Your Institutional References

References can be found at the end of Full-Details but not in Quick Review. Many references are active links that may take you to a citation page available in Pubmed.

From Full-Details you can click a superscript (raised reference number) to go directly to a reference. To return, just click the "Return to Text" link in the upper right.

Illustrations

PC displays illustrations to the right of the text inside Quick Review and Full Details. Quick Review only contains some of the illustrations whereas Full Details displays all of the illustrations for a procedure. If the same illustration is referenced multiple times, it only displays the first time it is referenced.

There are two sizes of illustrations, the larger of which appears in a pop-up window. When an illustration is referenced within the text is clicked, the larger version of the illustration displays. Smaller versions of the illustration display on the right on the text.

Some illustrations have a tabbed effect. These are Flash files. You can click on any of the tabs, and the image/illustration changes for that tab.

An example below shows a tabbed illustration of both tabbed views. The first illustration is open to the Surface tab.  The second tab, Deep, shows the second view of the illustration.
